Why you shouldnt damage your battery | Hammer Test with Samsung Galaxy S V (VIDEO)

Dont try this at your home. Okay, these smartphone “stress test” videos on YouTube have got to stop. Why? Aside from breaking my heart every time I watch a $700 smartphone getting destroyed on camera, they can also be downright dangerous. Don’t believe us? Then check out this recent video byTechRax who, upon slamming his Samsung Galaxy S5 with a mallet, ends up puncturing the battery, spraying out noxious fumes into the air and causing the reviewer actual physical harm.
Watch video here :

In the insane video above, a guy takes a hammer to a Samsung Galaxy S5. The phone actually holds up fairly well, up until the point that the battery pops out of the phone and shoots off the table like a rocket.

Ignoring for a moment that this is a completely unnecessary test, batteries are seriously dangerous when damaged. Lithium-ion cells aren't used in mobile devices because they are the safest technology we have, they're the most efficient. These batteries contain a pressurized flammable electrolyte which you do not want to breathe or release explosively... you know, by hitting the battery with a hammer or something. This could have been much worse than it was.
So just remember: batteries contain a lot of energy, and you should not come at them with a hammer. Ever.

There was also concern expressed from someone outside the room who called out ‘Michael’ and received a muted ‘what’ from the TechRax blogger.
The man is known for destroying expensive smartphones but even he now advises against smacking the device with a hammer.
‘Please, never hammer the back of your Samsung Galaxy S5 device,’ he wrote.
‘I attempted to do my usual knife and hammer test but I ended up getting some unexpected results instead.’
