LG G2 full information that you needed

Abandoning the Optimus for its highest-end devices, today LG finally announced their latest flagship - the LG G2.
At 5.2-inches, the LG G2 has a slightly bigger screen than the current crop of high-end smartphones. The resolution however, is the same at 1920 x 1080 px. The screen is a IPS unit with a brightness rating of 450nits. The LG G2 display uses something called Graphic RAM (GRAM) to reduce power consumption up to 26% when displaying a still image. LG claims this increases the expected overall battery life by up to 10%.
What's particularly striking about the phone is ultra-slim bezel and the lack of any hardware keys on the front (or sides, for that matter).
The only hardware key is actually positioned on the back. It's actually a combo of several buttons in one. That's the power/sleep key dead center along with the volume keys. The volume keys also double as shortcuts for the camera and Quick Memo feature. The reason behind the decision to position this key here is to make handling extra large smartphones easier and less prone to dropping.
The LG G2 is based around a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 GPU. According to Qualcomm's CEO, who appeared in stage today, the G2 is the first phone to launch on a world-wide scale with this top-shelf processor.
The storage capacity is set at either 16GB or 32GB. Supposedly, there is a microSD slot as well, but it seems that will only be available in certain markets and the units LG brought to NYC didn't have such a thing.
The 13MP camera is on par with the rest of the top notch hardware. It's got optical image stabilization (OIS) and can record FullHD 1080p videos in up to 60fps.
LG has also worked hard on the quality of audio output. The phone can reproduce Hi-Fi 24 bit/192kHz. LG has also collaborated with the Vienna Boy's Choir to freshen up the available sounds and ringtones on the device.
The LG G2 runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.
As customary for Android flagships, the LG G2 offers several proprietary features to differentiate. You can double tap on the screen to wake it up and tap again to turn it back off. The phone will readily auto answer a call when you pick it up to your ear. There is an innovative Guest mode to secure the privacy of your data when friends want to check out your new smartphone or when you hand down your phone to your kid.
Finally, you can get rid of a currently active app and minimize it by a three-finger swipe across the screen.
Speaking of multi-tasking, the G2 can store your app progress in up to three different apps. The screenshotting feature can capture a whole webpage or a long email, not just the content in your viewport.
The LG G2 also has an Infrared port that can be used to remotely control home entertainment devices by learning from their conventional remotes.
Connectivity-wise, the LG G2 makes use of the latest generation LTE-A connectivity (up to 150Mbps), as well as dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.
For power backup, the LG G2 relies on a 3,000mAh Li-Po battery.
LG G2 will be available in black or white and will launch to over 130 carriers in the next eight weeks starting in South Korea, followed by North America, Europe and other key markets.

Mere hours before its official launch at the company's New York event, the LG G2 has showed its face again in a couple of live photos. Best of all, it poses right next to the Samsung Galaxy S4 begging for a comparison treatment.
Both smartphones are dressed in white for the occasion, which really helps the comparison. The first thing that we notice is that the G2 is bit larger than the Galaxy S4 due to the 5.2" display. However, the LG G2 has far thinner bezels, so the difference is pretty minor.
Just as earlier leaks pointed out, LG has opted out of placing a physical buttons below the display. Instead, the smartphone bets on software onscreen buttons, allowing better space efficiency above and below the screen.
At the back, things get interesting for the LG G2, which features three keys - the volume rocker and an additional button of unknown purpose. The LED flash sits on the right of the rumored 13MP camera. Both phones support LTE-A connectivity, although this particular version of the Galaxy S4 features the standard LTE radio, and not the newest LTE-A one.
Update: A hands-on video just surfaced. It's in French and lasts for 6 and a quarter minutes, giving you a very detailed look at the hardware and the UI of the smartphone.
We'll have the full scoop of the LG G2 in a couple of hours as the announcement event kicks off. Stay tuned!
LG finally announced its G2 flagship smartphone at its event today. The 5.2-inch device comes with a very sleek design and packs a punch with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. The good news is that LG G2 will be available on all 4 major US carriers - Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint.
LG G2 will hit the stores by the end of August and the smartphone will also be available on 100 different carriers within 90 days. Unfortunately, there is no official pricing details of the LG G2 at the moment.
The only hardware key on the LG G2 that is positioned at the back of the device has been the talk of the town. LG G2 also has an impressive sounding 13 megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and comes with a few other exciting features.
Check out our detailed launch post for more information on the LG G2 smartphone.

LG uncovered its new smartphone beast, the G2 an NYC press event yesterday. Back then LG focused more on the ultra-slim bezel, the impressive design and the lengthy list of hot features of the smartphone, but didn't say anything about pricing. Well, thanks to some online retailers that information is no longer a mystery.

The LG G2 has been spotted on a German retailer and according to the listing, the 16GB variant of the SIM-free G2 will cost €599 (about $800), while the 32 GB unlocked version will sell for €629 (about $840). Those prices seem pretty reasonable and we suspect they will carry over to the rest of Europe.

Sadly, there is no official word on the availability of the LG G2 on the Old continent, but is should be no later thanSeptember.

LG G2 leaks AGAIN !

How many more LG G2 leaks until the official unveiling on August 7? Well, one more, at least today! It looks like either LG is doing an awful job at keeping this device secret, or, on the contrary, an exceptional job at controlling the leaks. The LG G2 just can't stay off camera these days, and its latest batch of photos not only shows the device, but also confirms the capacity of its battery Either way, here are two new shots of the upcoming flagship and they seem to match previous leaks. 2,610mAh is the capacity appearing on this image above, and the good news is that it is user removable. You can see the camera and those rockers on the back, while the image above gives us yet another glance at its slim bezels. Five-point-something is the size rumored (5.2-inches, to be more specific, according to this report), and the resolution should be at 1080p.
Other rumored specs include a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC clocked at 2.3GHz, 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel camera, and the battery confirmed above (in case LG didn’t change its mind about the size in the final unit). LG has fitted the G2 with a 2,610mAh juice pack that is user-removable. This means you'll be able to carry a spare and keep on using the device for those extra long spells away from chargers.
The 5.2" 1080p display shown in one of the photos certainly look the part. The company has ditched hardware keys in favor of software ones, which will have a transparent background. LG has given the status bar the same treatment.
The LG G2 is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 800 chipset with a 2.3 GHz quad-core Krait 400 processor and 2GB of RAM. At the back, you can spot the 13MP optically stabilized camera with LED flash and the volume rocker around it. It'll be interesting to experience how the unique volume rocker placement would feel once we get some personal time with the device.
The company posted the second teaser for its upcoming flagship and the New York event where it'll be announced. Be sure to tune in on August 7 to find out the full LG G2 details.

LG G2 leaks in new colour variants

The LG G2 has leaked numerous times already. This is why we mostly have a handle on the specs it will have – 5.2" 1080p display, Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2GB RAM, Android 4.2.2, 13MP camera and 2,540mAh battery.
We even saw several teaser videos that don't really give away anything but the taglines "To me, you are perfect" and "Learning from you" and show a short glimpse of the characteristic back with two buttons next to the camera.
Now there are a couple of new leaked images of the LG G2, which show a potential change in design. The curved back covered in glossy plastic can be seen in four different color versions – Black, Blue, Red and Purple. That's a departure from the clean glass look of the Optimus G and G Pro.

Leaked images show different colors
At the same time, the teaser site is available in two color versions – White and Black. Clicking between the two nothing but the background changes. Is this a slight hint that the G2 will stick to the black and white colors of its predecessor? Those could be snap-on back panels as one observant reader points out. We'll find out for sure on August 7.
The good news is the event will be livestreamed, so you can watch the unveiling live.

Press image of Verizon's mid-range LG Enact surfaces

Another device with uninspired design and LTE to fill out Verizon's end-of-year lineup Verizon and LG have had a steady relationship of releasing mid-range devices to fill out its smart phone portfolio, and it looks like the LG Enact will be the latest in the series. Following in the footsteps of devices like the Lucid, Spectrum and Revolution, the Enact (aka VS890) looks to have a moderate screen size, four capacitive buttons (yes, menu button included) and typical branding in all the right places. The interface looks to be the same as other recent LG phones, and considering that Chrome is highlighted as an app on the home screen we're likely looking at Android 4.1 or above loaded on the Enact. Look for this one to hit Verizon by the end of the year at a low price point on-contract. A new press image of the Verizon bound smartphone, dubbed as LG Enact has been leaked, courtesy ofevleaks. The mid-range Android device with a model number VS890 is rumored to be announced with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board. The LG Enact is said to sport a display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and the smartphone is expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus or a Snapdragon 400 processor and will support 4G LTE connectivity. Unfortunately, there is no word on the pricing and the launch date of the upcoming Verizon smartphone, but it's likely that it's going to be subsidizes to free on contract.

It's official - LG G2 is the name of the company's next flagship device. LG will dropping the Optimus moniker for its next flagship and the G series will be established as a premium brand. It's likely to bring forward a 5.2" 1080p display and an optically-stabilized 13 MP camera as well as a Snapdragon 800 chipset. The smartphone will run on Android 4.2 with a new version of the company's own launcher on top and will featuer on-screen buttonsAccording to the South Korean ETNews, LG aims to sell 10 million units of its new flagship. It's not as ambitious target as the ones Samsung sends for its latest flagships, but given LG's recent performance it doesn't sound too bad either. Here's hoping that it achieves it as the Android market can certainly use some extra competition to spur more innovation.

LG to soon make devices with 8cores. Nexus 5 could have that delight if Google lets LG make it.

Google has never made out the best smartphones in their Nexus range , the devies always being mediocore in all the features have been known only for their latest version of Android . LG have been very busy releasing new hardware and there are now rumours that they could be about to reveal an 8-core Odin processor with their next smartphones. There were rumours going around before the announcement of the LG Optimus G Pro about the company finishing work on the 8-core processor and this will feature in the device if timing worked out. However the LG Optimus G Pro launched with a quad-core processor. Now all eyes are on the next Optimus device to get the Odin chipset. The processor, which has the codename of Odin, will be put into mass production later this year. It is said that the chip will have the ARM big. LITTLE processor and this is what Samsung use in the Exynos 5 Octa processor. This is manufactured with the 28nm High K Metal Gate fabrication tech. It will have support for full HD at 1920 x 1080 and it is has been said that it will not come with a baseband modem and that it might work with four Cortex A15 cores. These would deal with tasks that are heavy and the other four Cortex A7 cores would be used for the daily tasks. At the moment we don’t know which device will get this processor but word on the street is that it will be the successor to the current LG Optimus G. The LG Optimus G is selling quite well currently and the same can be said about its Nexus variation, the LG Nexus 4, which is almost identical in terms of hardware. If the LG Optimus G sequel does get the octa-core chipset, we may also be lucky enough to see the Google Nexus 5 get the same privilege, that is if LG gets a second shot at a pure Google phone just like Samsung did. Given that the LG Nexus 4 was unveiled in November, it is safe to assume the same will happen with the Google Nexus 5 this year. That would tie in with the chip production as well. We can dream can’t we?

LG makes the worlds thinnest touchscreen measuring 2.3mm

LG Display said Thursday it has developed the world's thinnest full HD LCD display for smartphones, measuring just 2.2 millimeters thick. The company said its new 5.2-inch (132 mm) display panel has a resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels and is brighter than current full HD phone panels on the market. LG did not reveal when the panel will become available on the market, but showed images of it working and said its results had been independently verified by testing firm Intertek. LG Display said the screen's bezel is a fraction thicker at 2.3 mm.LG said it has used a new in-house technology it calls "Advanced One-Glass-Solution." One-glass solution technology, or OGS, puts the touch screen layer of a display directly onto the underside of the cover glass, combining the two. This eliminates the need for a separate touch-screen layer and allows more light through. It also has the potential to make manufacturing simpler and save costs.Displays, batteries and camera modules are among the thickest components in smartphones. Slim designs and low weight have proven to be major motivators for consumers, and so manufacturers are eager to flatten their devices. The display and touch screen together make up the most expensive component on a smartphone, followed by NAND flash memory and the main processor. As companies search for ways to make mobile devices ever-sleeker and lighter, LG Display announced Wednesday that it is coming out with what it claims to be the "world's slimmest full HD LCD panel for smartphones.""Today's introduction of the world's slimmest full HD LCD panel represents an exciting advancement for the high-end smartphone segment, and is possible due to our world-class expertise in IPS and touch technologies," LG Display's IT and Mobile Development Group's vice president Byeong-Koo Kim said in a statement. "LG Display will continue its commitment to developing products that maximize consumer value as well as opening new doors for the mobile andtablet PC industry."LG is known for pushing the envelope when it comes to smartphone and tablet display technology. Last month, the company announced it was beginning the mass production of flexible and unbreakable smartphone display panels. The technology used in these bendable display screens is apparently also thinner and lighter than conventional LCD displays. It's likely that LG is using the same panel in its upcoming flagship smartphone LG Optimus G2 which was recently spotted in leaked pictures and video. The phone is expected to feature a 5.2-inch full-HD panel and a super thin bezel. Even the volume rocker and power buttons are said to be located at the back of the phone due to this reason.LG has used the Advanced One-Glass-Solution (OGS) technology in the panel, which it says has been deployed for the first time.  The company informs that dual Flexible Printed Circuits, which are superior to a single circuit, have been inserted between the panel and touch film, reducing the number of lines on the panel by more than 30 percent. It has also used a direct bonding system which it calls Optical Clear Resin between the panel and touch film allowing the display to offer more brightness. The display panel delivers a brightness of 535 nits at maximum, which is more than what other full-HD panels deliver at this point in time, as per the company. It says the panel's superiority in terms of resolution, brightness, and contrast ratio results in enhanced outdoor readability. The contrast offered by the display in real-life surroundings with Ambient Contrast Ratio gives a reading of 3.74:1 based on 10,000 lux, which according to LG, indicates that the display will perform well even in strong outdoor sunlight conditions. The certification is based on the firm Intertek's testing. The move certainly signals that high-end smartphones of the future will be thinner and have bigger displays.

High camera supporting devices to be launched this summer

Its raining smartphones this summer with top companies launching their (high camera) smartphones. There is a lot of hype and each of these devices is rumoured/declared to be released this week. Nokia, Google and LG are all gearing up to unveil new premium handsets in the coming weeks, here's what to expect:
Nokia
The Finnish phonemaker has somehow managed to let almost everything about its latest phone leak prior to its official launch. With mere days to go before its July 11 launch, the only thing that remains unclear about the next Windows Phone 8 handset is its name.It could be called the Lumia 909 or the Lumia 1020. The handset will feature a 41-megapixel image sensor for professional-quality photographs even in low-light conditions. This sensor, along with its camera app, will also mean ' lossless' digital zoom, i.e., being able to blow up pictures without losing resolution or detail. It will also come with 32GB of internal storage (but no SD slot for further expansion) and a 4.5-inch OLED display.

Google
The company this weekend sent out 50 invites to a Motorola press even on July 10 and 11 which could very well see the Moto X handset unveiled for the first time. Unlike Nokia, Google has managed to keep most details about this phone a well-guarded secret. What is known for sure is that it will use sensors in an intelligent, contextually aware way so that the handset can do things automatically that other phones can't.One such thing is launch the camera app when the user brings the phone up to his or her face, or automatically activate the hands-free mode when it senses it is in a car. The phone can also be customized but Google hasn't elaborated on this detail, or confirmed whether the customization extends to the device's chipset and RAM or if personalization is confined to background wallpapers, and the shape, color and texture of its shell. And, Google being Google, there is every chance that the event will have absolutely nothing to do with phones. We'll have to wait and see.
LG
Unlike Google, LG has been very clear that on August 7 it will be debuting its next flagship handset, the LG G2.  It will feature extra control buttons on its rear casing, will boast a 5.2-inch full HD display, a whopping 13-megapixel camera, 3GB of RAM and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

LG to launch a Windows 8 smartphone?

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 operating system (OS) is expected to get support from one more Korean tech giant—LG Electronics. The company is working on its Windows smartphone, which is currently at the R&D stage. “At home (South Korea), we are actually working on our Windows Phone 8 OS powered smartphone,” LG India’s Managing Director Kwon Soon told Light Reading India.Kwon however said that the company’s focus will primarily be on Google’s Android operating system. “Android is the major platform globally, given its acceptance and penetration. Although, we believe that Windows will pick up going ahead, as Microsoft is pumping efforts into it,” Kwon further explained. On Windows Phone 8 launch plans, Kwon said that nothing has been decided yet and the company is assessing the market opportunity attached to it.Presently, Finnish handset major Nokia is the only player, which has its smartphone range completely dedicated to the Windows Phone platform. Samsung also offers Windows Phone powered smartphones under its ATIV portfolio.Chinese smartphone vendors—Huawei and ZTE also offer Windows smartphone globally, while HTC has also introduced its Windows Phone 8 OS powered devices—HTC 8S and HTC 8X.Globally, the market share of Windows Phone OS powered smartphone has been improving by each passing quarter. According to Gartner, the market share of Windows Phone OS smartphones stood at 2.9 percent in Q1 FY’13, up from 1.9 percent for the same period of FY’12.LG Electronics is banking high on its high-end Android powered Optimus smartphone portfolio. The company is preparing to expand its smartphone range in India with 22-30 new smartphones planned for launch by the end of 2014. In India, LG Electronics wants to garner Rs 750 crore revenues from its smartphone business by the end of 2013.  The company has less than 5 percent (2 percent) market share in the country, and it aims to increase it to 10 percent by the end of 2014. LG has its fingers firmly entrenched in the Android pie, but that doesn’t mean the company is going to ignore other options.
He was also quick to point out though that Android is still LG’s bigger focus. After all, LG has had some success in the market in the past year thanks to their partnership with Google on the Nexus 4 smartphone. Considering that sales of the device have not peaked in India, where it has only recently hit stores, it's safe to say that LG can expect more fortunes from the Nexus 4
Korean manufacturer LG might be the next major smartphone producer to offer a Windows Phone 8 model. A published report out of India says that while the phone is under development, there is no guarantee that the Korean manufacturer is going to go ahead and launch the handset. While LG has been avoiding Windows Phone, the platform is slowly picking up market share. From a 1.9% market share in the first quarter of 2012, the platform had 2.9% of the global smartphone market a year later, according to researcher Gartner. Whether that is enough potential for LG to decide to offer a Windows Phone 8 model is a question only LG can answer.  Where has LG been during Windows Phone 8′s first year on the scene? The company released a pair of Windows Phone 7 handsets back in the platform’s day (above), but hasn’t continued that involvement so far as WP8 is concerned. From time to time we’ve heard LG mention its aspirations for Windows Phone 8 – back in January, it even sounded like there might be multiple LG WP8 models – but we’ve ultimately had nothing to show for it all. As we wait for such a device to actually arrive, LG is once again talking about its plans, and confirming a WP8 smartphone is under development. For the moment, there aren’t any specific launch plans, and we don’t even have a general launch window; that could mean that things are still early along, so we might have a bit of a wait on our hands.Companies rarely like to speak about future plans, but an LG executive has confirmed that company is indeed working on a Windows Phone 8 handset; however, working on a phone doesn't mean that it will actually be released. The trepidation is understandable considering that the company said its Windows Phone 7 launch fell short of expectations. However, with improving Android sales and a very slow advancement of Windows Phone 8 dominated by Nokia, the company may be more willing to take a chance. Kwon clarified that LG has not yet decided when or if it will release the phone currently in development. The manufacturer is currently exploring options and waiting for a chance to seize on the right opportunity. LG will continue to make Android a priority, but it hasn't ruled out pursuing Windows Phone 8.

FLEXIBLE displays to reach users in less than a year - LG

A flexible display is a display which is flexible in nature; differentiable from the more prevalent traditional flat screen displays used in most electronics devices. In the recent years there's has been a growing interest from numerous consumer electronics manufacturers to apply this display technology in e-readers, mobile phones and other consumer electronics.LG spokesman Frank Lee said the Korean company is set to start mass production of flexible displays in the fourth quarter of this year.Furthermore, LG Electronics plans on releasing its first smartphone with a flexible display before the year’s end.The new displays are of the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) variety, which LG first introduced in its products via a 55-inch OLED television unveiled at CES last year.LG also plans on selling the technology with to other major mobile producers, as the company predicts its flexible display technology will become the latest trend in mobiles. This, in turn, raises speculation as to which next generation device we could see with flexible displays this year, or in the first half of 2014.In LG’s own camp, the rumored LG Nexus 5 is one such candidate, as is the LG Optimus G2 (although not according to these leaked images). The anticipated Apple iPhone 6 could also be in store for a flexible display, although that product is not expected until at least 2014.Finally, LG hopes that its flexible display technology will give it the upper hand over hometown rival Samsung, who are supposedly facing problems with the development of their own flexible display tech. Then there’s also last year’s OLED panel leak, which makes this a hot button issue between the two Korean giants.LG Display is about to embark on the mass production of smartphone display panels that reportedly don't break, crack, or shatter -- because they can bend.By the fourth quarter of this year, the electronics company plans to be supplying the flexible displays to a host of major clientsLG will apply a 4.5th generation glass-cutting technology for the OLED flexible displays. Monthly capacity for the line was set as 12,000 sheetsThe push for flexible displays comes at a time of growing demand for new screen technology. LG spokesman Frank Lee told The Korea Times that one of the reasons the company was heading toward mass production was to meet "the rapid need for display advancements."Flexible displays could be the new frontier for electronics; and, it appears that LG wants to get a leg-up on the market and become the first company to mass-produce the display panels for mobile devices. In April, LG Electronics (a stakeholder of LG Display) announced its plans to debut its first flexible smartphone sometime this year.LG isn't the only company working on the bendable displays. Samsung, Nokia, and even Apple have been working on flexible smartphone and tablet screens for years.Until handset manufacturers can make an entirely flexible smartphone, which would require a new design for internal components, flexible displays screens will remain ‘a novelty’
