Micromax on
Monday announced Canvas 4, a Smartphone that would replace Canvas HD as the
company's flagship Android phone. In terms of specifications, Canvas 4 is not much different from its
predecessor. It is powered by MT6589, the quad-core processor made by MediaTek
that also powers Canvas HD. Just like its predecessor, Canvas 4 also has a
5-inch screen with 720p resolution. The device has 16GB internal storage and
1GB RAM; the storage is expandable with microSD card. It is powered by Android
4.2 (Jelly Bean) and has battery capacity of 2,000mAh. The phone has been
priced at Rs 17,999. While hardware specifications are similar, Canvas 4 is
different compared earlier Micromax phones in terms of design and software
features. The shell of the device
has been made using plastic and an aluminium frame. It also has a few unique
features like 'blow to unlock' the phone. The phone packs smart gestures that
allow a user to answer a call by just picking the phone up, put it in silent
mode by turning it upside down and dial a number with help of proximity sensor.
It also features several unique video playback
features, including one similar to 'smart pause' found in Samsung phones.
The phone has a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP
front camera. Commenting on the
launch, Rahul Sharma, co-founder, Micromax said, "With the launch of
Canvas 4, we are yet again raising the bar for affordable innovation. Canvas 4
combines great functionality and style, complemented by an entire eco-system of
applications that directly address the needs of our evolving consumers."
Talking about the recent growth of company,
Deepak Mehrotra, CEO, Micromax said, "We are very excited with the
consistent growth of the brand in India. The numbers have been promising with
17.1% Smartphone market share in Q1 of 2013 positioning us a clear number two
in the category, and we have already moved to 24.3% in April 2013 as per Cyber
Media Research." Micromax
revealed that 11,500 units of Canvas 4 have been pre-booked in less than a week.
Micromax has
launched the latest version of its flagship phone - the Canvas 4 - at a price
of Rs 17,999. The Canvas 4 has a 5-inch HD IPS display and comes in an
aluminium casing that also doubles up as an antenna. Micromax says that touch
screen is optimised for use even while wearing gloves. The phone is powered by
a Cortex A7 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and but doesn't run on the latest version
of Android Jelly Bean, but instead comes with its predecessor Android 4.2.1. The
phone has 1GB RAM and an internal storage of 16GB. The rear camera can record
1080p video and includes features such as vertical panorama, anti-shake, face
detection. The camera, Micromax says the Canvas 4 in burst mode can capture 99
photos in less than 15 seconds. The video pinning feature lets users pin a
video they are watching to the home screen while performing other tasks. The
simultaneous video view can play more than one video at the same time. The
Canvas 4 also borrows the eye-tracking feature from the Samsung Galaxy S4 in
which looking away from the screen while watching a video pauses the video and
resumes play when the user looks back at the screen. Micromax has also borrowed
a lot of features from other phones, such as flip phone to mute. The phone went
up for pre-order on June 28.Micromax Canvas 4 teaser which was posted on Facebook earlier hinted
at a unique unlocking system. We wonder what men think about 'blowing' to unlock
Micromax Canvas 4- Fun or Faltu? The device also includes vertical
panorama, smart gestures, video-pinning, text/email and use
of any app while watching a video.
