Skype for Android has got a major resdesign as it has crossed 100 million downloads. Having reached a milestone, the company has released the all-new Skype for Android 4.0.

"We didn't just give Skype a makeover, we rebuilt it from the ground up to be faster and more reliable. We went beyond design and fundamentally changed the way Skype was built, focusing much of our effort on stability, performance, and load time," said the company in a blog post.
The brand new Skype for Android app borrows ideas from Skype for Windows 8 app, thereby bringing conversations to the topSkype for Android has got a major UI redesign even as it has passed a whopping 100 million downloads on the world's most popular mobile platform. Version 4.0 of Skype on Android now has an interface that is more in tune with the company’s Windows Phone application. While many developers are embracing Holo design guidelines, it comes as a surprise that Skype has chosen to go with the slightly Windows Phone 8-like look for its overhauled Android app. “We started to reimagine what Skype would look like back when we launched our Windows Phone 8 app late last year,” explains Derek, Head of Mobile Marketing at Skype. “Our focus was simple: we wanted to deliver an app that makes your interactions easier and puts conversations first. Our Android team saw this great work and wanted to deliver an equally bold, beautiful, and modern design in this latest Skype for Android release.

Snyder explained that the redesign was undertaken keeping in mind that the app needs to be faster and easier to use, especially when you’re simply trying to fire away a quick message. The clean list ensures that you can find your current conversations with ease. It is now easier to start a new conversation too with the ability to tap or swipe over to the Contacts or Favourites tabs, tapping on the person’s name to bring you to a messaging window. This window is key because you can now just chat, but also make voice and video calls from there. Skype says that the overhauled application for Android is not just an update but a whole new application. The app has been built ground-up to be faster and more reliable according to the company. The focus this time was not just on changing the design but also on stability, performance and load time. There are a lot more updates coming for Skype for Android in the later months, says the company. There has been absolutely no mention about a redesign for the iOS version of Skype, though. Apple users might have to wait for a design and stability redesign for Skype.
