There she is, folks. That is your first look
at the Moto
X variant
headed to Verizon. No details have accompanied the photo, but we can clearly
see Big Red’s “4G LTE” logo in the notification bar, along with a phone design
thatmatches up to previous leaks. The phone pictured appears to
be running stock Android or at least a version that is extremely close to stock
Android. We’re looking at the stock icons, coupled with on-screen navigation
keys. Most importantly though, the screen takes up almost the entire front of
the device and is most definitely edge-to-edge with little chin or forehead.
Clearly this is a test device, hence the “MOTOROLA
CONFIDENTIAL PROPERTY” and “NOT FOR SALE” tagged across the top and bottom. The
circular Motorola logo in the top left is also typically used on test devices
rather than retail units. So when this phone launches, it could be almost
brand-less outside of the little Motorola batwing that should be inserted into
the indention on the back side. And remember, this device won’t be a DROID in
the sense that the ULTRA and MAXX will be. This is Motorola and Google’s
baby that will be a flagship across all carriers. This follows a
roadmap that leaked yesterday showing the release date of the
handset on Verizon (as well as the HTC One). Overall, the phone isn’t very
large, and looks quite a bit similar to the Nexus 4. We also get a look at the
Android software running on it, of which there is only one really notable
portion. A careful look at the keys on the bottom of the screen reveals that
the background behind them is transparent. This is a change up from what we
currently see, and could indicate anything from a customization specific to the
phone to a newer version of Android being on it. Aside from that, what we see
are some large bezels at both the top and the bottom of the screen, as well as
the generic black color that will be offered on the handset (in addition to
white, it is said) available from carriers. The customization options, of which
they’re rumored to be numerous, will be available to those who order online
with their own selections. According to the leaked roadmap, Verizon will be
launching the Moto X on August 23, giving us a bit over a month left in
waiting. It is possible Motorola will be revealing the device well before this
date, however, especially considering the number of leaks that have surfaced
concerning the device The upcoming smartphone from Motorola has been the talk of the town
ever since we heard about it for the first time. The Moto X has been leaked
numerous times and recently, we also saw the device with Eric Schmidt, the Google Executive
Chairman at the on-going Allen & Co. annual conference in Sun Valley. Now,
the image of the Verizon bound Moto X has surfaced and the latest leak reveals
the presence of the LTE radio in the smartphone. The image hints us that the
upcoming device from Motorola might be running a newer version of Android. Interestingly,
the background behind the on-screen soft-keys looks semi-transparent in
contrast to the solid black bar on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. However, this
could well be a software customization, but with Android 4.3 around the corner,
there is every chance that we are looking at what could be a new look for the
stock Android launcher. The Moto X will be assembled in the United States and the smartphone is
expected to be announced in August.
