In June, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia slapped a ban on Viber, a service that allows users to call for free, send messages and photos as they failed to comply with the rules of country's Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) . Now, Whatsapp a similar app is facing this problem as it cuts the revenues of local telecom companies as it allows messages to be sent for free over the Internet. The CITC has decided to ban Whatsapp if it dosent comply with the rules. Skype to face the axe too ? However knowing the history of bans it dosent really comes as a surprise.
